businesses on the Internet.
Remember this about your home based business. There must be a value proposition for
the buyer. In other words value to the customer is a combination of
what they receive and at what price. This is sometimes referred to
as the USP or unique selling proposition.
So you say why should that concern me, I just want to sell on the
Internet and make money? Well the reason an Internet business with a
USP or value proposition concerns you is simple. If you do not
deliver value to your customer then soon you will have no more
customers. Take for example the buggy whip maker in the early
1900’s. The automobile put him out of business because there was
basically no need for buggy whips anymore. They had no value to most
people. So most buggy whip manufactures went broke because they had
no USP and delivered no value to the customer. You do not need a
buggy whip to ride a car.

opportunities out there that take an item worth $10 in terms of real
value to the customer and then create a business opportunity around
it and sell it for $30 – paying out huge commissions. This is the

Internet based home business must deliver real value.
Let us say in the previous example that you are selling the best
tasting water in the world. It has a real value to the customer of
say $10 but the company expects you to sell it for $30 and the $20
is given out in the form of commissions to you and others. This is a
recipe for disaster because how long will the buying public buy an
item worth $10 for $30. This type of scam is seen all the time in
things from weight pills to vitamins and all kinds of lotions and
potions.
Now when you are researching to find your best home based business
be sure to check and see what competing products there are that are
not selling a home based business opportunity. I have personally
check out many home based business opportunities that sell a similar
product to one that can found at Costco. However they sell it at 3
times the price of Costco – so how long do you think that will go
on? Why should I buy from Joe, even though he is a friend? As the
old saying goes, business is business and friends are friends.
Then there are those home based business opportunities and Internet
business opportunities that try to sell items which can be obtained
for free. Now while you may not believe this simple use the Internet
to search for coupons and coupons for 2 people flying for the price
of one just to name a couple. Home based business opportunities and
Internet business opportunities that are focused on coupons or
certificates must always be considered suspect.
For example most of the home based businesses that are based on
coupons or certificates generally give away a coupon which can be
found on the Internet for free or for a greatly reduced cost.
Remember the company giving the coupon away or the heavily
discounted price for an item are doing so because they have the
ultimate plan of making you a customer. The company plans to make
you a customer and continually buy their peanut butter or their
coffee or they plan to get a shot at you to buy a time share from
them. Time share presentations are notorious for this strategy. But
coupons and certificates always have a catch. The company is not
doing it just to be nice guys. They expect a return on that
investment (the free coupon is their investment) in the future
through some sort of sale. The coupon was simply a hook to get you
in the door so that they have an opportunity at selling you or
building you into a customer when you realize how good their product
is. So they have adopted the policy to make you a customer you must
try the item be it peanut butter or a time share room.
So now your problem as a marketer is how long can you go on selling
something that people will figure out is free or that can be had a
greatly reduced prices just so there are big commissions to
distribute?
So now that we have exposed some of the myth about home based
businesses and Internet business what is the BEST home based
business or the best home based Internet business.
Well the best home based business is:
A business that has a proven product
A product with real value to the consumer
A company that has a good reputation
A company with a marketing plan that can be easily learned
A company with great training – from how to sell on the Internet to
how to run a home based business
A business that fits into your budget
A business that has product that you would be proud to sell
A business that fits into to your temperament
So begin your search and look for these characteristics. Always
remember that if it looks too good to be true it probably is.
Don’t be swayed by big commission numbers – remember is you are not
delivering value to the customer you will soon have no customers.
Also don’t be lured into believing that if a product has a very
small commission that it will be easy to achieve a sales force of
several thousand people selling it for you.
The product must have value and must pay a reasonable commission so
that you are left with a profit after you expenses of time and
money. Remember that on the Internet you will not get clients for
free. So you must make a good commission to offset time costs and
money costs of acquiring clients.
